Yea thats cool... From here on out with any future android it's more than likely gonna need a custom kernel... I remember when chain fire dropped the first indication of that in a write up last winter... And now with him bailing I'm just glad you guys are rooted to at least run 5.1 if you want...stock would be optimal but at least it's root

Yeah like  we talked  about when a guy  like chain starts to walk away....its a sad sign of things to come....

You have brought  this up also numerous times so you saw it coming too

Yea and there's times when I'd pay to be dead wrong... This is a prime example of one of those times unfortunately buddy

On the bright side... Well as bright as it can be lol... Fingers crossed we get this is under the curve for root cuz I'm def worried about 6.0 and knox 3 coming down

Yea def not getting too excited... Was let down by literally everything this year man... That and the bootloader I'm just trying to be hopefully optimistic lol... Which isn't typically my cynical style lol

Sef kinda said it all about 5.1.1 lol...for once  i have nothing  to say haha.

I did restore my stock backup of 5.1.1 and flashed su 2.50...still wont boot.

Was worth a shot lol.

Im anxious to run 5.1.1 with the stock kernel but right now not possible unless you run without root....which would suck.

Hope someone can find a way to get root on stock

I've been reaching out to some kernel devs and am trying to piece together what's needed to get stock kernel working for us on 5.1.1. Seems like all that is needed is to set kernel to selinux permissive, but unlike in the past now with 5.1.1 this must be hardcoded at the kernel source code level.

Kernel development is new to me, but from what I gather I need to build the kernel using a 5.1.1 source, then cherry-pick a github commit (one dev sent me a commit to try, and I also found a selinux permissive commit in the emotion kernel git repository which I need to try). Sammy hasn't released the N910T or N910W8 5.1.1 sources yet, but phil3759 made a bootable 5.1.1 stock kernel for the N910F by building the 5.1.1 N910P source, changing it to selinux permissive, then repacking it with the ramdisk from the N910F 5.1.1 kernel. Going to try the same but with our device's ramdisk... I might be missing something here but i feel like i'm making some sort of progress lol.

Edit: chainfire's new SuperSu Beta 2.50 seems like it might allow root on stock selinux enforcing kernels with only a few ramdisk changes, which means only packing/unpacking of the new kernel and no need to actually build from source. Great news if this can work for us since it's much simpler than messing with sources and commits. Will give it a shot :)

Got it! I think lol... Chainfire's new SuperSu Beta 2.50 allows stock 5.1.1 kernels to boot rooted roms now. Aside from the new SuperSu, the original kernel needs to be unpacked and the ramdisk' sepolicy pushed to a phone running 4.4.4 or 5.0.1. A few adb commands and then pull the policy back and repack it with the ramdisk. His thread is for marshmallow but the trick also works for 5.1.1 samsung devices. I managed to get it to boot stock and iB4STiD's rom, but for some reason it doesn't boot my own 5.1.1 builds lol. Might be an init.d conflict somewhere on my side. Chainfire now suggests using su.d instead.
